Something happened that evening, as Jesus prayed upon the mountaintop. It was something that amazed those who were there with him; something that caused them to see Him in a different light.
~ told by Deborah
About eight days after telling them of his coming death and resurrection, Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, his face was transformed, and his clothes became resplendent.
Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in radiant glory and were speaking of his departure, which he would soon accomplish in Jerusalem.
Despite being very sleepy, Peter and his companions had stayed awake and so were able to see his majesty and the two men who stood with him.
Just they were departing, Peter started saying to Jesus, "Master, it is good we’re here; we can build three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” — talking nonsense.
While he was carrying on like this, a cloud appeared and covered the mountaintop — which terrified them.
A voice thundered from the cloud, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” In the stillness which followed, Jesus stood there, alone.
They kept quiet about this at the time and didn’t tell anyone what they had seen.
It was as if the sun arose
upon a midnight dream;
hope exploding from our souls
above the darkness and despair
a radiance divine
broke through the clouds, rolling away
the mist from our eyes;
in that instant we beheld
a spark of heaven’s fire;
the mundane became magnificent,
and filled us with desire;
full awake, and trembling
we heard the clarion call:
release the fears that hold you back,
cling to the All in All;
we now know clearly what before
we could not comprehend:
a light that shines eternally,
the love that never ends.
Christ’s radiant joy abide in you,
Imagine love's pure radiance.
Now imagine being enwrapped in that love. (Perhaps, more accurately, realize that you are wrapped in that love.)
